The TenderCrisp Multicooker Cookbook Learn 600 New Healthy Delicious Pressure Cooked Air Fried Baked and Steamed Recipes for Effective Weight Loss Vegan Vegetarian and Keto Lifestyles Emma Katy 9781798636121 Books Reviews

  • Thin, no pictures, recipes run together. For example, the name of a recipe is at the bottom of the page then the recipe is on the next followed directly by another. It just all runs together. The picture thing isn't too big of a deal, but people are visual eaters. Won't be my first choice for finding a new recipe, but not worth the hassle of returning.
  • Most of the recipes in this Ninja foodi cookbook are easy to locate even in grocery stores. Most of them require few ingredients and yet the recipes turn out tasty and healthy.
  • A very simplified TenderCrisp Ninja foodi Cookbook indeed! I now have many healthy and tasty Ninja foodi recipes to enjoy! The few I tried so far were awesome and yummy!
  • I usually open my kindle cookbook with ninja foodi recipes and look for the dishes to cook for today. This cookbook always gives me daily delicious and healthy recipes to try in my Ninja foodi. None of these recipes have disappointed me. In fact the ninja foodi recipes beat the pressure cooker recipes I have fried so far.
  • Of the 3 Ninja foodi multicooker cookbooks I bought so far, this is the best. The book is not just a cookbook, it has many useful tips for weight watchers and also for living healthy. The meals taste great and also require few ingredients and little prep and cooking time.
  • Apart from the new healthy Ninja foodi recipes I have learnt from this TenderCrisp cookbook, I also learnt many healthy tips, both for weight loss and Ninja foodi maintenance tips. A big thanks to the author.
  • I love how simple, crispy and tasty the Ninja foodi recipes in this cookbook are. Their calorific values are not too high. I was able to find a handful of Weight Watchers recipes in this cookbook.

A noted space expert explains the current revolution in spaceflight, where it leads, and why we need it.

A new space race has begun. But the rivals in this case are not superpowers but competing entrepreneurs. These daring pioneers are creating a revolution in spaceflight that promises to transform the near future. Astronautical engineer Robert Zubrin spells out the potential of these new developments in an engrossing narrative that is visionary yet grounded by a deep understanding of the practical challenges.

Fueled by the combined expertise of the old aerospace industry and the talents of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, spaceflight is becoming cheaper. The new generation of space explorers has already achieved a major breakthrough by creating reusable rockets. Zubrin foresees more rapid innovation, including global travel from any point on Earth to another in an hour or less; orbital hotels; moon bases with incredible space observatories; human settlements on Mars, the asteroids, and the moons of the outer planets; and then, breaking all limits, pushing onward to the stars.

Zubrin shows how projects that sound like science fiction can actually become reality. But beyond the how, he makes an even more compelling case for why we need to do this--to increase our knowledge of the universe, to make unforeseen discoveries on new frontiers, to harness the natural resources of other planets, to safeguard Earth from stray asteroids, to ensure the future of humanity by expanding beyond its home base, and to protect us from being catastrophically set against each other by the false belief that there isn't enough for all.

Read The Case for Space How the Revolution in Spaceflight Opens Up a Future of Limitless Possibility Robert Zubrin

"The book discusses where we are in spaceflight and where it is leading especially with the involvement of competing entrepreneurs. The book provides deep understanding and presents the challenges and accomplishments of entering space clearly. Topics range from reusable rockets to human settlements on Mars. The author makes his case for why we need to being doing these things. Written by an astronautical engineer, the book is tiny print and quite overwhelming in volume but the topics are varied and interesting. It addresses the complexity of the economics of going into space and what drives our decisions on what to explore. It’s a good book but its daunting. If you are interested in really understanding where we are in spaceflight and what to look for next, this book will provide the answers and quite a lot to think about. Set aside some time to dig into it. The author has written other books. Four stars.

The Case for Space How the Revolution in Spaceflight Opens Up a Future of Limitless Possibility Robert Zubrin Reviews

  • The first space age began in October of 1957, when the Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite into orbit. Twelve years later, the US landed a manned spacecraft on the moon, winning the space race and the political struggle to show the rest of the world which nation was the most advanced. In the forty years since then, thousands of rockets have carried artificial satellites aloft, several space stations have been constructed, and unmanned probes have been sent to explore the planets, but no astronaut or cosmonaut has gone farther than low earth orbit. Manned space flight hasn’t progressed much farther than it had in 1969, and remains largely a monopoly of one country- Russia- and a rocket and spaceship not very different from the ones they were launching in the 1960s.

That is all changing. Propelled technologies and funded by internet billionaires, a new generation of private space companies has emerged, looking to democratize space. SpaceX has accomplished that which the Space Shuttle could not A reusable rocket that can place payloads in orbit for a fraction of the cost of the rockets made by the traditional aerospace companies. Competitors like Blue Origin are not far behind. And Virgin Space will soon be taking paying tourists on a ballistic voyage into space.

It’s an exciting time, and there are countless opportunities for those looking for careers in private space exploration, technology, and investment. Not surprisingly there have been dozens of books about this new era in space published in the last few years, and most of the ones I’ve read not been very good. This one, however, is written by a real expert on aerospace engineering with decades of experience in the field, and it’s packed full of history, technical information, and recommendations about policy. Author Robert Zubrin is a PhD engineer, a founder of the Mars Society, the holder of many patents related to space flight, and has been a senior engineer at Lockheed Martin and Martin Marietta. He’s a strong advocate for manned space flight and the commercial and civilian use of space, and he has the facts and figures to back up what he says.

This is a dense, and fact packed book that can be heavy going at times, especially for those without some knowledge of science and basic math skills. For the educated reader, though, this is an absolute treasure trove of information and well-supported arguments for space exploration and utilization.
  • The book discusses where we are in spaceflight and where it is leading especially with the involvement of competing entrepreneurs. **review by Mrs. WryGuy2**
  • The author who is head of the Mars Society and a PhD engineer has written a detailed and comprehensive guide to where we are in space exploration. He begins with the efforts of various entrepreneurial enterprises especially Elon Musk's Spacex and Jeff Bezos's Blue Origins, he describes efforts on the moon, mars, the asteroids, outer planets of the solar system, and finally discusses future efforts in deep interstellar space. He discusses both technical issues, including propulsion and terraforming, as well as social and political perspectives. The only topic which perhaps by intention he neglects is the 1970's vision of Gerard O'Neil in developing large free floating space colonies.

Any excellent review for citizens who study either public policy or follow technologies and scientific programs.
  • I got this hoping that the author would breach some hidden technologies within the current secret space program. Yes, there is the public one you & I see & read about; but there's also been a hidden secret program. Some of those hidden black research technologies are purposely being dripped slowly within our managed economy; 3-D printing is just one recent example.
This secret subject matter has been written about by many authors The best is Dr. Joseph P Farrell[Covert Wars and Breakaway Civilizations The Secret Space Program, Celestial Psyops and Hidden Conflicts Dec 25, 2012]; other examples, are Richard M Dolan and Richard C. Hoagland. Those authors also have many books available on .
Staying within the mainstream science and literature, one could not go wrong with Robert Zubrin; who certainly has the credentials and background, plus numerous books on the subject. But more importantly, the author has passion for his subject matter.
Although this book has somewhat small print, this does allow a lot of information to be packaged within it. I found it easy to carry around in my jean's pocket. This book has numerous photograph, both color and black & white; graphs; illustrations, charts, formulas, and a glossary. All make the read more easily to understand and picture what the author is getting across.
Like the author; and I'm sure many readers, I too think that humanity has been gifted the stars and it's in mankind's DNA to explore those stars throughout the galaxy and beyond.
Where I defer, is in the economic context of space being commercialized and privately owned. Mankind needs not only a paradigm shift in bringing those hidden space technologies out into open & being used; but to shift the economy based on dead rocks[gold, etc.] as well, to one based on living wealth[Change the Story, Change the Future A Living economy For A Living Earth by David C Korten, Feb 2, 2015].
Other than those caveats the author, in the main, does a superb job of bringing the reader up-to-speed in the revolution in spaceflight and its future. Robert Zubrin does; however, warn the reader that this bright future it is not a done deal. He has many misgivings about the ubiquitous bureaucracies that are getting in the way of our necessary steps towards a limitless future.
So reader, take a ride with the author and explore the possibilities. The author starts with a discussion of the present-day breakthroughs, and how this may lead to ultrafast travel through suborbital space; to new industries on orbit; and to human settlement of the moon, Mars, the asteroids, and our outer solar system. Come along and he'll explain it to you in detail with photos, illustrations, graphs and much more.

  • First comprehensive monograph on the artist's work
  • Spans four decades and includes all major paintings, sculpture and drawings
"Everyone should own a Beezy Bailey" - David Bowie.

Beezy Bailey aspires to create art as a balm for a mad world - a corrective for our most lamentable human qualities, including a planet brutalized by extremes of wealth and poverty, environmental ignorance and negligence. Often his works are accompanied by poems, such as 1000 Year Dance Cure, in which he exhorts the world to dance a new dance, to abandon that which does not serve us, and to embrace each other in our humanity, and the Earth in her service to us. The sources of his imagery are elusive. In his own words "frozen dreams, images and legends enter from my subconscious, the realm of my imagination. I act as a conduit for visual messages greater than I am." This new monograph embraces the entire spectrum of Bailey's creative output over the past thirty-five years, from sculpture and ceramics to paintings, prints and drawings.

Contents Foreword by Brian Eno; Introduction by Richard Cork; Works; In Conversation with Roslyn Sulcas; Selected Exhibitions; Index; Credits.

"Lani’s new book exceeded my expectations! After countless tries over the years at meditation and mindful living to relieve my difficulty in focusing in both real-time conversations and deeply reading anything but articles and fluff, her teaching has helped me in both cases. I’m only partly through the book and accompanying audio instructional meditations and I get it. I’m more present, listen better and can focus on the present conversation instead of all the past and future stuff that usually clutter my mind in social interactions (most of the time). And I can read the deeper, thought-required books I’ve bought over the years, this time with patience and thoughtfulness. I can still synthesize on the fly at great speed, which I love, but can also quiet down and be present. What a gift to me - and those around me! Her ability to teach clearly and step-by-step, in little steps, is helpful. And her depth of knowledge and years of experience are successfully passed along. I am very grateful for her writing this and for finding it at this stage of life (retired). How sad if, now that I have time for people and pondering great ideas I couldn’t concentrate enough to enjoy both!"

The Mindful Vegan A 30Day Plan for Finding Health Balance Peace and Happiness Audible Audio Edition Lani Muelrath Neal Barnard foreword Tantor Audio Books Reviews

  • I've just received this incredible book a few days ago, and although I still have much to read, it is life changing! Lani's heart and soul shine through in this book as she shares so much of herself. I instantly felt a connection to everything that Lani had to say! Being vegan for the past 6 years is one of the best choices my family has ever made. It has literally transformed our lives, including putting my teenage daughter's Crohn's disease into remission. My compassion for animals keeps me firmly grounded in this choice, as well as my passion for the healthiest, happiest life possible.

In spite of healthy eating and regular exercise, there was something missing. I've known for awhile that I needed to do some "Internal work" to live my best, most joyful life. Meditation practice has always been difficult for me, and I've never known quite how to approach it. Lani's book makes it so accessible, including a 30 day plan to train ourselves in mindfulness...just a little more each day as we grow in this practice. With her expert guidance we can learn to navigate "disquieting states" (anxiety, stress, restlessness, boredom, fear, etc.) and ease them without reaching for unnecessary or unhealthy food as comfort. Mindfulness meditation is an amazing tool, whether you are struggling with constantly trying to resist temptations to overeat, are prone to anxiety, or just want to live your best life.

On page 16 of the book, Lani notes that mindfulness meditation can lead to stress reduction, emotion regulation, and increased well-being, and so many other benefits! To name a few..."increase self awareness, lessen harmful patterns of feeling, thought, and reactivity, enhance self-confidence, patience, and compassion, experience more calm, develop a greater capacity for dealing with adverse situations, reduce anxiety and depression, quiet intrusive thoughts, improve focus, enhance creativity and problem-solving, improve immune function, become more resilient, reduce insomnia, and better manage pain." Each chapter is filled with amazing information, tips, and "Mindful Moments" for introspection. I'm so excited to continue on this path. Whether you are just thinking about veganism or already there, there is an abundance of support for you in The Mindful Vegan to provide you with sustenance for the journey.

Lani's message is about creating more self-awareness, balance, thoughtfulness, kindness, compassion, peace, health, vitality, and joy in our lives, bringing healing to all beings and our world. This book is a true gift! I have never come across a book like this and highly recommend it. Let the transformation begin!
  • Having yo yo dieted my entire life it wasn't until I adopted a Whole Food Plant Based Lifestyle that I was able to lose the excess weight and keep it off. Through my journey I found Lani Muelrath. Lani connects the dots in her new book The Mindful Vegan. Reading this book will teach you how to tune into your body, how to lose weight and keep it off, you'll regain your heath, have youthful vitality that you thought was gone forever.
Being a mindful vegan, impacts all aspects of your health and the health of our planet. The very best part is the lives saved when becoming a mindful vegan.

  • I was attracted to this book first by the beautiful cover. I have transitioned to a plant-based diet this past year and am about 80% there (I will eat dairy at friends' and relatives' houses as they can make vegetarian dishes but vegan is a whole other world it seems) and I have been trying to practice being mindful. I bought this book and love Lani's approach. It is gradual and she gives several recommendations for incorporating mindfulness and meditation in the every day life. I have numerous "A ha" moments as I read this in particular as to why my mind is always wandering to various thoughts and how to bring it back to the present moment. I highly recommend this book to anyone attempting to meditate or practice mindfulness, regardless of whether you are an omnivore, vegetarian, or vegan.
  • In The Mindful Vegan, Lani Muelrath provides an easy-to-follow map for gently building a secular mindfulness meditation practice into daily life, and shares her personal story of how utilizing mindfulness techniques has improved not only her relationship with food, but also with many other aspects of her life. Her writing style is conversational and often humorous, but also intelligent and insightful. Throughout, the author invites the reader to explore their own lives and relationship with food and eating, and offers many practical tools in support of becoming more present and at peace in every area of life. Reading the book is like having a thoughtful conversation with a good friend over tea -- comfortable but also enriching, providing inspiration and hope, but also offering down-to-earth advice that you can put to immediate use.

The Whole30 The 30Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom Melissa HartwigDallas Hartwig 0884890301443 Books Reviews

  • Dear Prospective Whole-30ers,

If you have been in a state of dependency on food--be it sugars, alcohol, chips, ice cream, just about anything--or if you have been unwell, unsuited to the world physically or emotionally--or, if you simply feel blah and would like to lose a little bit of weight--please consider trying this program. You might think, "I don't eat that badly! I eat a lot of whole foods!" which is what most people think of themselves (I sure did). But when you actually make a conscious decision to eliminate foods from your diet, you will see that even the small amounts of crap that you've been eating regularly matter. Prepare to be amazed. I sound like an evangelical, I know. It's a little embarrassing. But it is all true.

My fiancee and I did this together. It takes teamwork (if you have a family, you probably need to get them on board). It also will help if you can begin (or even complete) this diet when you have a minimum of social obligations--having office mates who eat a lot of cake or friends who drink a lot of booze WILL NOT HELP while you are on this program. Don't try to start this the week before Christmas if your family gathers to eat until they pass out. Be realistic about when you begin this. You must prepare a little bit and read the book ahead of time so you aren't just floating at sea. And, be aware you will not be able to sufficiently screen foods made by other people!

But listen--we'd both been relatively inactive for years and each about 25 pounds overweight. Between the two of us we lost 34 lbs in 30 days and we are still going to keep up a serious commitment to Whole 30, with a few supplemental treats now and then. We feel better, we have new confidence about getting dressed in the morning, and we're more fit than in years, mostly because we have the energy to do more. The amazing thing is that you will NOT feel hungry if you hang in there and consistently prepare foods as per the cookbook/menus. There is also a very supportive and helpful forum online to supplement the book.

Realistic Details I think that this will be more challenging if your culinary experience is limited. A lot of people complain about the difficulty of the recipes. The fact is that if you can make eggs and broil or barbecue meat, or even if you can turn on an oven and toss a salad, you will be fine. You might be a little bored with the food if you are not savvy in the kitchen, but it might help if you are really a novice to get the cookbook in addition to the guide.

Upsides Has cured my chronic acid reflux completely. Completely changed my thyroid function and numbers for the better, have reduced medication dosage. Complexion better than in years. Lost a lot of weight and inches. Has helped to control cravings for many things. Has restored a more stable mental health balance and huge increase in energy levels. Dropping the weight has helped fitness levels immensely. AND if you can afford to buy Nutpods Creamers, these will allow you to drink coffee/tea within reason. This was the biggest bonus ever.

Downsides Prepare for a bit of a rise in grocery cost. Prepared foods cost less than whole foods. This is American governmental ag subsidies in a nutshell. It's unfortunate and unfair, but true. Also, as others have mentioned, you will be in the kitchen more. Again, it helps if one of you cooks and the other cleans up. It's a little annoying to be sure, but the results are more than worth the annoyances. It is also very difficult to eat out. You pretty much are limited to places that are expensive and accommodating, delis where you know and trust the ingredients, or Chipotle. Again, the slight isolation (if you can do this or at least begin it when you have a little time to spare and don't have a lot of socializing) helped.

Another downside If you have had chronic health issues (especially gut related), you may find that reintroduction actually teaches you that you're sensitive to most foods. It turns out peanut butter, gluten, and most dairy are now off limits. That rots!! But I'll live. I feel so, so much better without them, as I learned. And wouldn't you rather know why you feel crappy all the time?

But then again, when have you found a program that is ENTIRELY ONLINE AND MOSTLY FREE that changes your life? When you are in line at the checkout with your meat and chicken thighs and raw almonds, remember the money you are going to save by NOT joining another weight-loss program or hiring a life coach or drinking booze or going to the doctor for that blood pressure you really ought to monitor which is quite possibly linked to your diet. Dallas and Melissa, the authors, say that a craving usually lasts about ten seconds. Count and breathe through the french fries someone raved about at the office. Skip out for a tiny walk while everyone is hoarding that cake at work. Eat a little roast turkey and some oven-baked potatoes. Read more books with the newfound energies. If I--a bon vivant of the kitchen, believe me, hoarder of butter, lover of booze, cream, sugar--can give these things up for thirty days, anyone can.
  • This book has simply changed my life. I know that you aren't supposed to weigh yourself on this program, but weighing myself is a motivator so I decided to skip that rule. It's only been two weeks and already I feel so much better. I am more alert in the mornings and my acid reflex is gone. In addition, my migraines seemed to have disappeared entirely. What is really motivating me is the fact that I lost 15 pounds and 10 overall inches in two weeks. I also love the fact that I have the energy to exercise again. I look forward to continuing this program even after my 30 days are up. I just feel that healthy and energetic! I'll post an update once my 30 days are complete. )

Update So today is day 18 on my Whole30 journey. I just wanted to let you guys know that there is a lot of cooking involved with this program. I'm actually tired of cooking, which is why I started making large meals to freeze for the week. It actually works out well for me, especially since I don't mind eating the same food everyday. I've also been drinking a lot of tea and water. I feel like it is helping to flush out more toxins from my body. I has been approximately four days since my previous review and I lost an additional 2 pounds on this journey. I have so much energy that I actually am unable to sit still like I used to. I guess I was depressed before going on this journey so the Whole30 has actually improved my mood as well. I go for a walk every day and I've actually started a new workout program!

Update So I just finished Day 23 of my Whole30 Journey and I feel good, aside from the fact that I caught a cold. Weighing myself today, I discovered that I lost 19.5 pounds so far! I measured myself and immediately noted that I lost 19 inches over all (I measure my chest, both arms, both legs, waist, and hips). I think when I am done with my first round, I'll take a day off then start a second round. I just feel that great overall.

Update So I just finished my first whole30 round and I have to say that I'm super excited by the results. When I hopped on the scale today, I noticed that I had lost 26.6 pounds. I then measured myself and noted that I lost a total of 31.5 inches (-5" from chest, -2" from right arm, -3.5" from left arm, -8" from waist, -5" from hips, -4" from right thigh, and -4" from left thigh). I am really excited by my results!

I plan to have a celebratory dinner tonight (likely a gluten free pizza from papa Murphy's), then I will start my second round of whole30 tomorrow. I think that I might actually reach my goal of losing 50 pounds by August!

I'll keep you guys posted! If you have any questions, feel free to comment. I will do my best to answer them. )
  • There are about half a dozen diets that are very similar. They all recommend you eat "meat and veg" The reason Whole 30 works for me is because you can have potatoes and fruit. An example of a whole 30 meal would be 2 pork chops, mashed potatoes made with chicken stock, green beans, finish with your choice of fruit. My favorite is a few grapes or pineapple chunks. Also the goal it to make it 30 days without cheating. There have been several times I would think OK I can't cheat now I only have __ more days to go. Having an end in site helped me. When I started adding back in food groups after the 30 days. I figured out that I do not do well with Dairy. Now the only dairy I use is real butter. I never thought I could live without cheese... But now I don't think it's a good idea for me. So it helps you figure out what you can and can not eat and still feel good.

While Navy SEAL Rafe Buchanan is stuck at the airport, he is captivated by the woman cursing a blue streak with a take no prisoners attitude. He invites her for drinks and realizes she’s everything he gave up hoping he’d find. But a random glance at a TV monitor ends their flirting when Meghan Henley sees her brother’s missionary group was kidnapped in Afghanistan.

Meghan turns to Rafe as her world is flipped upside down. How could one man already mean so much to her? And Rafe is determined to help the woman who has stolen his heart. Realizing the deadly situation, he calls John “Tex” Keegan to help.

When Rafe is called away on a mission, Meghan asks Tex’s help to stage her own rescue of her brother. But things go sideways when she is taken hostage. Will Rafe, Tex, and the rest of the Black Eagle SEAL team be able to get to the hostages before the Taliban carry out their threats? Or will he be haunted forever knowing he lost his dream?

SEAL’s Spitfire is book one in the new Black Eagle SEAL Team series and features John “Tex” Keegan from Susan Stoker’s SEALs of Protection.

"Rafe Buchanan and Meghan Henley, both from different worlds, is thrown together when a flight they were both on were delayed due to mechanical problems. To pass the time, Rafe invites Meghan for a drink. Everything that happens thereafter, is history.

Lynne St. James, a new author to me, gives Susan Stoker's Special Forces: Operation Alpha world justice with her first book in the Black Eagle SEAL Team series. I love that she was able to integrate Susan's beloved characters, especially Tex, into the mix, and she did it so well that I, for one, will want to track the rest of her work in the future."

  • This was my first introduction to Ms. St. James’ writing and it was a good story. It was interesting, exciting, sexy and suspenseful. It is also a quick, page turning story. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. James’ stories.

My name is Alexis, though everyone calls me Lexie. I'm a necromancer. We're rare enough that I've never met another in my life, until Claire came home to tell me she found one. In New Orleans.

Now, I am headed south with my best friends, staying in close quarters with five guys, four guys whom I have kissed, one who has been ignoring me for the last few weeks, one who keeps sneaking kisses, one who doesn't even remember it, and another...well, I don't know what he wants. Thank God for Miles. He's my one safe place in this disaster I've created.

Naturally, that's not my only problem. Things aren't good in New Orleans. Representatives from the Witch's Council are in town, the dead are everywhere, and the secrets are piling up. The whole situation is a powder keg just waiting for a match.

But why am I holding the matches?

"Claire comes to Lexie with news, there's another living Necromancer and he wants to meet with her. Only issue is he's not in state. Well, Montana, anyways. He's in New Orleans, an area legendary for magic revolving around death. The men in her life are not happy about this drive to go talk, neither her friends nor Rory. Unbelievably, her uncle allows her to make the trip, as young as she is, as long as she takes the guys with her. So, the 6 of them pile on a plane and head south the land of constant sweat and frizzy hair. What started out as a possible connection with another Necromancer turns darker. NO has some strange events going on. People getting sick with no bacterial or viral contagion, ghosts everywhere and none of them want to cross over, and then the disappearances start up. Forget about relationship issues, just what the hell did they all walk into?
Mild spoilers ahead-
There was so much going on in this book. Things have been building for a while now and all these little factors are getting pulled in. It's busy, it's chaotic, it's crazy. Rory allowing this trip? Oh hell no. I know she's been an acting adult for a long time now but letting her run headlong off as a minor is bonkers. This on again off again fighting with Tara is crazy, too. Why do we get Jessica's POV but not Tara's? If you're going to play up the jealousy over inherited abilities at least allow us to sympathize with Tara. All we see now is b**** mode and screaming. I had hope in previous books when she was learning self defense with Lexie. That hope is fading. Also, this headlong flight into an unknown situation. I get that she's finally getting some of herself back. I loved that she got to do some art tours. But there were some pretty epic TSTL moments going on here. And not just her, among the guys, too. After specifically stating that they needed to remain in pairs, at the very least, Zeke was constantly working out solo, the twins would argue and walk off in a huff, Asher would be alone on the balcony, and many other moments. I was a little disappointed that they didn't do something for Zeke's bday. Of all things, Miles and Lexie going dancing just seemed wrong. Why didn't they stay together and celebrate? Even if it was just burgers and video games? That seems like a slight to me especially as Zeke is obviously struggling over everyone's safety. The POV jumps, the oddness of the council, the other Supe groups, the little bits of info snuck in there about this and that, all the emotional upheaval and a million other things leave you feeling wrung out at the end of this book. I'm contemplating another read through after I've had a day to absorb it all lol. I almost feel like this should have been 2 books. I know it seemed like I complained a lot but it isn't really that. It was a good continuation of the series. I just felt oddly rushed in some places and that important info was skipped on others. A little fleshing out here and there and what was a rushed single book could become an epic 6&7. Brunnemer brings the energy, though, and doesn't disappoint on the action. Although, I feel Lexie is being nudged into depths she's not ready to handle yet. Yeah, gonna need to soak this in and reread and add to the review."

  • I'm so bummed out about this book. I loved this series up until now, and I had been so excited for another installment.

The previous book in this series had a slightly different feel to me, and I wasn't sure how I felt about demons and gargoyles being thrown into the mix, but I was willing to keep on keeping on. I purposely never read this author's gargoyle book, because I wasn't into it. But, I loved the premise of a high school girl who was trying to deal with spirits of the dead, family drama, school drama, and this awesome group of guys. It filled a niche that is somewhat lacking in this genre. There are a ton of crazy, over-powered paranormal chicks with a harem in this genre. There are very few (well written) contemporary YA books in the RH genre. I loved the Veil Diaries because it straddled that line. It felt like contemporary YA, but had a horror vibe that drew me in. Ghosts! How awesome is that, am I right? And, not over-done to the point of eye-rolling. I really loved those books.

This book? Not so much. The things I loved about the other books (high-school dramz, family dramz, contemporary feel, etc) were completely missing from this book. I get that Lexie is on summer break, so there would be less HS stuff going on, but this book really jumped the shark for me.

The pacing in this book felt totally off. Each previous book Lexie took a step and gained a bit of insight into her "gifts", but also lived her normal life. Which is what I loved about those books. This book was a hot mess of vampires, werewolves, witches, necromancers, zombies, ghosts, and other unknown supernaturals - and, you know - a supernatural war. This wasn't a step further on the road of her journey - it was like she was thrown into a supernatural rave - lots of movement, confusion, and flashy lights. There was some forward movement, but it felt lost in the jumble to me. Lexie immediately compartmentalized everything that was thrown at her, and since she never processed it, I didn't get to process it as a reader, either. It left me feeling pretty disconnected to the feels in this book - which was something that I loved about the previous books. I had all the feels reading those books, but the pacing of this book didn't allow for that (for me).

In my opinion, the author could have taken a book per supernatural type, and had a slower, more meaningful transition into this paranormal war, and I wouldn't have been so peeved about the huge change in tone from the previous books to this one. And, THIS was the book to have all the guys decide to push for a relationship and bring the poly-idea to a head? No. Just, no. There was too much going on, and so I felt totally disconnected from what should have been a pivotal, dramatic/romantic point in the story-line. To me, it just felt rushed and forced, and I was really disappointed in the execution of that.

Lastly, each book before this was clearly a book in a series. There was an over-arching story-line of the veil, Lexie's journey, the relationships she was developing with the guys, and those things have never been resolved, because - series. Got it. However, each book (before this) had a story arc that was settled in each book so that I still felt satisfied with each ending. Learned how to manage ghosts without dying, defeated the stalker, cast out the demon, yadda yadda... but, this book did NOT have a resolution to its "story arc" - it just ended at a weird point (a half-arc?), and then had POV epilogues, at the end, that felt stuck on. I didn't feel like there was a satisfying ending for this book, and I'm not looking forward to the next book. I'm just.. bummed.

Clearly, a lot of people loved this book. There are a lot of reviews from happy readers. I'm just not one of them, and my opinion is just my opinion, but I have a right to it - like everyone else.

I felt like this was a departure from the tone of the previous books. I loved this series before because it wasn't like all the other PNR/RH books out right now, but this book took a huge leap (over the shark, complete with leather jacket) in that direction for me.

    Bummer. -(

Dog Man Brawl of the Wild From the Creator of Captain Underpants Dog Man #6 Dav Pilkey Books Reviews

  • My 8 year old son was excited to read his new book but we both quickly realized that it was not appropriate for him. There is no reason for there to be multiple pages of nothing but a dog puking violently everywhere. What is my kid getting out of that? In addition, my son even found it somewhat hard to read because of the horrible english it uses. It combines words together to form words that don't even exist which is not what a second grader needs to practice reading! I tried to return this as my son is refusing to read it after the puking dog pages but return shipping was more than I paid for the book to begin with. Do yourself a favor and get your child something worthwhile to read and skip this horrible book.
  • My nine year old loves this series. I decided to read this volume to find out why my son finds Dog Man so entertaining.

What I found is that there isn’t anything too mysterious about its appeal. A mix of sympathetic characters, gross-out scenes and a bland but well-meaning moral seem to be the formula for its success. The emphasis on bodily humor will probably make the book more suitable for a boy than a girl.

But perhaps a review by a child would be more apt than a forty-something’s opinion. He thought it was good but not great. Dog Man is a good choice if you are looking for a book that your pre-teen will read without having to apply any pressure. But don’t expect anything too substantial in the text.
  • This lovely book came Monday 12/24. My 8 yo and 6yo have already devoured it.

My 6yo is not a confident reader. He’s great at reading but doesn’t seem to trust his own abilities. Something really clicked with him a week ago and this kiddo binge read all 5 Dog Man books so he would be caught up for #6.

I love how these books spark a love of reading and a lot of laughs.
  • Half humanoid, half canine guardian of justice and humanity in league of his unforgettably formidable allies saves the city from evil villains set out to plague it in as annoying way as fleas on a poor dog’s body. Hooray for Dog Man, our unlikely but likable hero that deserves of our heartfelt hoot and hollow. To contradict the usual glorification of hero-worshiping façade, Dog Man is none of your familiar super heroes in Marvel Comic Strips, nor is he like Batman, Superman, or even Iron man who seems to possess vulnerable human traits, and yet is equipped with wondrously technological gizmos or alien superpower. Contrariwise, Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man wonderfully embodies all things related to our unfavorable human tendencies that cloud our wondrous potential abilities - insecurity, disappointment, loneliness, and diffidence as deeply felt by Pilkey himself as a child diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD at school.

Pace the generalization of the book as being intent for children, this book is inclusive of literature, philosophy, philosophy, and sociology contextualized in the story and delineated in the characters without gravitas of the academia. Take Dog Man, who finds himself estranged from his colleagues at his police station except his boss, Chief. Dog Man cannot talk for the reason because he’s a dog with a human body used to belong to his K-9 policeman killed in action. As the title "The Brawl of the Wild" adumbrates, Dog Man is in a way reminiscent of Buck, the sled dog in Jack London’s classic The Call of the Wild that comes to term with his fate and even reconciliation with a treacherous human in the person of Thornton. Then there are Petey, who is supposedly a sinister jailbird, but in fact softy inside, his cute young son Li’l Petey, who never gives up on his jail- bound father Petey in his joint collaboration with Dog Man in rescue operation of the city, and stern but benevolent Chief, who seems to defend Dog Man against unjust and unfair treatments from his fellow policeman/policewomen and the pompous judge. Wisecraking and heartwarming, hilarious and sentimental, intelligent and vivacious, each of the chapters is smoothly linked to the next one with amusing in-between intermissions that deserves of the separate theaters of appreciation.

The book is an enjoyable parade of laugh and compassion wrapped up in delightful amusement of vivid colors and elegant dialogues, which can be made possible by an insightful and observant author who stands with the reader and sees hope and goodness mired in the despair of hopelessness and powerlessness at the heart of humanity. I recommend this book to all who want to spend their time reading something jovial and funny after a long hard day or just to fill their minds and hearts with a fresh breath of air. This is a scintillating read that evokes a wide arc of thoughtfulness and imagination in the minds of readers both young and old, and the young at heart.
  • My son loves these books! We pre-ordered this book for him so he could continue his collection. This one was one of his favorites so far. He literally laughs out loud and loves reading them with his dad. Any book that has my kids excited to read is a great accomplishment in my opinion!
  • My niece loves this series and we couldn't wait for this book. She has already read it a few times and it also makes her go read the whole series again. Thank you for writing books to keep her interested. And now she is drawing her own characters and making her own little comic. Thank you for inspiring young minds.
  • This series is a huge hit in our home. We preordered this one as a Christmas gift for our son and he reads it every night. He finishes it and then starts over. It definitely encourages him to read. He finds the book hilarious and wants to read what happens to family members and friends to share laughs. The only downfall is that he stays up too late in his room reading and laughing after bedtime. )
  • My son unwrapped this book and was entranced by it. He has never read a book as long as he did for this book. How often do you see a 7 year-old ready 110 pages by themselves out loud without being asked? I read the book after he did and its very funny. We love the series and this latest addition is just as memorable as the others. Thank you for making a great book for all ages!
